South African Wine Laboratory Association
SAWLA forms part of the South African Society for Enology & Viticulture, SASEV, and aims to improve the quality of wine laboratories in South Africa, as well as the standardisation of methodology in these labs. SAWLA administers a monthly proficiency wine analysis round in Bika's ground breaking web-based inter-laboratory LIMS
Bika products and services
Design, development and implementation of web based LIMS for inter-laboratory proficiency testing
As required by good laboratory practice, SAWLA member labs statistically compare analysis results for wines sampled from the same tanks on a regular basis as proficiency test and performance tracker
On Bika Interlab, key statistical parameters, distribution and performance graphs are available immediately after results are captured. Performance histories are updated and available in graphical format at the lab's Interlab home page
Approximately 50 member labs - 2 samples each per month tested for any number of standard wine related analytes resulting in approximately 1000 analyses per month. The SAWLA interlab LIMS is hosted on Bika's LSP servers in Cape Town
To be Implemented June 2006. The SAWLA LIMS will form an integrated part of of SASEV's web site where news, workshops, journals and other information relevant to the wine industry will be published
