Bika LIMS in Spanish education
Funded by the EU Social Fund and Spanish Department of Education, Gaob Bika LIMS 3 is being implemented at two technical training colleges in Spain
The College laboratories, at the Integrated Center Donapea of Pamplona and Institut Montilivi in Girona, are partnered in the project and function in the chemical, micro-biological and water treatment disciplines
The Colleges teach Laboratory Analysis and Quality Control and the LIMS implementations are part of an 'applied innovation' project in Spain's vocational education training program. The LIMS training integrates with existing theoretical teaching material, and aims to enable students to resolve real life lab situations
The project also involves the two labs partnered in assuming lab and lab client roles, and exchanging samples and results using the Bika web-based workflow. In a secondary phase, Bika will be used to manage the maintenance, testing and calibration of lab instruments at the Colleges
The project has been assisted by Jordi Puiggené Valls, LIMS consultant and Bika Lab Systems partner in Barcelona who also provided the Spanish and Catalan translations for Bika 3. The consultancy provides LIMS project management services for all of the LIMS implementation life-cycle, from requirements and workflow analysis, infrastructure design, installation, configuration and SOP setup through to post implementation user support and technical maintenance
Bika Lab Systems is proud to be part of the illustration of the Open Source's knowledge transfer philosophy at the Pamplona and Girona Colleges, and looks forward to incorporating feedback from the project in future development and releases
