Open source Lims deployed at Western Cape winery
Web interface allows laboratory clients to remotely register analysis requests, track their progress and look up historical results
Bika source released, available for download
Bika LIMS v1.0 has been released on the general public license and is available for download at Sourceforge.net. Version 1.0 was commercially deployed at Western Cape winery BBK on 1 June 2005
SA wine bottling co-operative turns to open source
The Breëriviervallei Botteleringskoöperasie in the Western Cape is using a laboratory information system (LIMS) based on the Plone CMS, allowing clients to register analysis requests, track their progress and look up historical results -- all from the Web.
Bika translation 'How to' published. Dutch added
A 'How to' customise Bika languages page has been published on the Bika community site at SourceForge.net. It is available for download and describes in 8 easy steps how to create and run Bika dictionaries of LIMS words and phrases in the language of your choice. A Dutch Bika dictionary has already been completed and is also available for download
Bika laboratory management tools open sourced - Tectonic
Fulfilling a previous commitment, Western Cape-based Bika Lab Systems have released the source code for its laboratory information management system(LIMS) under the GNU GPL.
Bika Micro-Bio specification published
New functional specifications have been released for discussion at the Bika community site. The design has been completed in consultation with and is sponsored by Quantum Analytical Services
Bika, LIMS and ISO 17025
A 2005 version of of the ISO/IEC standard 17025 'General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories' has been published in May. With no changes to technical requirements. A document has been posted at the Bika SourceForge community site, inviting discussion towards a simple LIMS extract acceptable internationally
Bika in Italian
After publication of the 'How to' translate Bika at the Bika SourceForge community site, an Italian translation has been completed by I-node's Pierpaolo Baldan and the dictionary made available for download
Bika LSP at Cape Winelab
Cape Winelab, Stellenbosch, SA, will be evaluating the Bika Wine LSP with an option to take it into production early 2006. The trial installation is scheduled to go live 1 December
