Bika Health, OpenMRS interfaced
Following a pre-meeting 'hackathon', a Bika Health HL7 OpenMRS interface was successfully demonstrated at the 4th annual OpenMRS implementers meeting in Cape Town
The implementers meeting took place from 13 - 17 September and was preceded by a hackathon workshop where Bika developers could interact with OpenMRS interoperability specialists
Mastering unknown OpenMRS code, Java too - Bika is Python, and HL7, legacy health data-interchange standard, the interface was demonstrated live at the meeting the following week. Well done Campbell
Though we were downplaying Bika Health's patient module as this data should be managed in the Medical Records System, it was pointed out that in some settings patients also go directly to the lab for tests. Neatly covered by the Bika Health model and shown interfaced as well!
Two pilot installations of Health 0.2, built on latest Bika LIMS 2.2 platform and optionally including the OpenMRS interface, are currently being considered
Fully fledged Bika Health 1 development is to start in November with a SA government innovation grant and functional design is under way. We'll be starting to publish functionality shortly and asking for feedback - more interesting requirements came from the implementers meeting. Please consider participating at our OS Health LIMS forum
