Bika 3 latest
"Release early, release often" is proving to be a good one - the first Gaob Bika LIMS 3 release egg provided valuable feedback and a 2nd is under way
Status
Users of the on-line Gaob Bika LIMS 3 demonstration, and those on own independent installations, contributed a number of feature requests and bug reports in the short time since its publication. Solutions will be included in the next release and upgrade to the demo
The user manual is growing fast, but even better are the translations under way at Transifex.net where the Bika i18n internationalistation tags and dictionaries are up for easy web-based translation by volunteers in the Bika collective
Approved new translations will be taken up into future releases but can also be downloaded directly from the Bika Transifex pages
The next alpha release will also include sampling and preservation workflow and automation developed for Bika Water sponsor, City of uMhlathuze
More of Plone 4's modern web features are being brought into play, auto-logging-append-only remarks fields adorn many objects, JavaScript and Ajax used to manage displays for smaller tablet screens, etc.
Gaob?
Getting a code name to stick for Bika's LIMS trunk version 3 took a while... Earlier communications carried code-names Thandi, Shaka's queen mother, the most impressive 'lightning bird' Impundulu, and also Modjadji, the Rain Queen, but none carried
In the tradition started with Inkosi 'Chief' Bika LIMS 2 of using a title from local heritage as code name for a major Bika LIMS release, we bring you Gaob 'King' Bika LIMS 3. Gaob is taken from the Nama language in the Koi San group, direct descendants of South Africa and probably the world's earliest people
