Bika Interlab - LIMS for proficiency testing

Development has started on new product Bika Interlab, a web based inter-laboratory comparison LIMS, for clients SAWLV (South African Wine Laboratory Association) to be rolled out middle May

50 SAWLV member labs statistically compare analysis results for wines sampled from the same tanks on a regular basis as proficiency test, performance tracker and to fulfil accreditation requirements. With Bika Interlab, key statistical parameters, distribution and performance graphs are available immediately after results are captured. Performance histories are updated and available in graphical format at the lab's Interlab home page too

Inter-laboratory organisations and standards manufacturers from all industry sectors are invited to submit requirements for future releases of Bika Interlab. Please contact project manager Lemoene Smit, lemoene@bikalabs.com

Bika 1.2 ISO ready

Both Bika's generic LIMS and Wine branches will be ISO 17025 ready in next release Version 1.2 going into testing 1 May and production 1 June. It will be released under the general public license soon after

Bika Wine 1.1 came under review by SANAS, the South African National Accreditation Body for laboratories, at BBK recently and its accreditation friendly features are currently being fine tuned to comply in full

As expected Bika's security and authorisation system passed with flying colours, the customisation required centres around reporting titration volumes, factors and measures of uncertainty. More of the time stamps and user actions logged in the background by Bika, are being added to those already displayed on Analysis Requests and Work sheets

Vintage 2006 is in full flow at BBK and Western Cape. To enhance performance, BBK's 200 000 object database was converted to Bika 1.1 by, and has been performing admirably since and superior turnaround times maintained during this busy time

Bika is not about wine only - since the through the web schema editor introduction, the LIMS is easily customised for all sample types. New Bika branches provide solutions enhanced for recognised laboratory disciplines

Bika LSP at Cape Winelab in production

Bika's LIMS Service has been taken into production at Cape Winelab in Stellenbosch, featuring Bika Wine 1.1.3, corporate web-site and integrated content management. Capewinelab.com is hosted on Bika's Plone servers in Cape Town

The LIMS, interfaced to a Foss WineScan™, delivers analysis results to the web, per e-mail and automated fax. Bika's content management system provides excellent opportunity to manage the documentation required by modern laboratory regulation, and creates many possibilities such as on-line training, information on lab procedures for both client and analysts, instrument maintenance scheduling, etc
