New website and on-line demo. Bika Mail 2
Its been a busy 6 months since our last newsletter. Here's how it went and our plans for the future
With last BBK development milestone, internationalisation, reached – yes, she now speaks Afrikaans and any other language for which a terminology dictionary is set up – development has been completed. 1 st Phase that is, design and specification for a first upgrade has been delivered ...
Roll-out to a further 125 BBK members is under way. The scale of
these deployments often gets overlooked and can be a taxiing experience
– the Bika interface is simple, intuitive and includes excellent
manuals but little beats resistance to change. Many of the BBK clients
are traditional farmers and new to the information age. All the best,
pass the more difficult ones on to us!
Adel Sabbagha, BBK lab manager: ' ... quick, easy and hassle free ... The Bika LIMS halved our paper work. Automated faxing, the automated interface and query functions are winners. Our analysts spend their time much more productively in the lab, far less on client queries... highly efficient ...'
Bika LIMS for Quantum analytical laboratory
Analysis and design of Quantum Analytical Services' LIMS requirements and user specification are nearing completion. These will add micro-biological work flow and analysis request templating modules to Bika functionality and strengthen product specification. Integration with accounts package Pastel and quoting subsystems will also be featured
GPL – Bika to be released on the General Public License
We are repaying our dues to the open source community and will be releasing the Bika LIMS on a GPL license soon. Infrastructure will be put in place to enable version controlled downloads, uploads and discussion forum
Through deployment at non-profit and academic organisations, we hope to have Bika adopted and contributed to by the many enthusiasts in these open source communities. This we believe will be a world first for a commercially implemented LIMS
Towards an improved and industrially proven application!
New website and on-line demo
All news items and further announcements are available on the new look www.bikalabs.com in Plone
She suffered a quite dramatic make-over with Plone document management and issue tracking tools exploited to serve client inclusive project and support teams – the virtual project office is finally here
Demonstration movies illustrate key Bika functionality and for the adventurous, lab manager authorisation to a full demonstration LIMS. Please apply for a login & password here
As for news and the rest of the site, both movies and installation are updated regularly with latest functionality
Increasing prospects and Bika technical director Inus Scheepers' contract at the National Bio-Informatics Institute, saw some highly skilled and qualified personnel added to the Bika team
Irvine Short takes over from Inus for building and maintaining Bika platforms and architecture. For software research and development, Bika enlisted two computer science cum laudes, with years of experience to add: Etienne Posthumus, provides cross-pollination and visits from the Netherlands, while Anneline Sweetnam is expected to also do analysis & design, project management and customer support tasks. We continue to consult Heine du Toit on food technology matters
Bika similarly dealt with the rise in Plone demand and added 2 programmers to their team. After the success of the SIMPill back-end, that ingenious SIM card networked pill dispenser and prescription scheduler for patients on long term medication, Plone Accounting, is being readied for GPL release soon. Built in Plone and available for integration with Bika LIMSs
